WierWann
The WierWann are a post industrial society that focuses on genetic manipulation. They have created everything from DNA computers to microbial fuel cells. They have closed themselves off a bit because of atrocities committed by the humans during the tir’a-human war. The WierWann were forced to cooperate with the creation of the chimera project. It is speculated that the WierWann have placed flaws in the chimera.
Society: The WierWann are short lifespan carnivores(about 30 years) who practice cannibalism. They gain a racial memory from the eating the oldest of their kind. So depending on the the elder that is consumed, the young gains that linage’s memory. They have a nonverbal form of communication though subtle changes of skin color. They have integrated their computers with other members of the Federation to communicate with the other races.
Science: The WierWann developed their science in what they call the Forge, a grouping of hydrothermal vents. They have perfected genetic manipulation in within the shells of diatoms, using the silicate shell as a vessel for the DNA that is engineered within. Being somewhat war-like the WierWann have created a fused glass, thick obsidian, armor. Also a gas propelled spear of the fused glass. The computers of the WierWan are glass balls that pulsate with an eerie luminescence. They connect themselves to their computers via living coral that passes through the computer’s outer glass shell.
The Feast of the Ancestors: From the Legend of the WierWann(The name seems to be derived from a combination of two of their ancestors.): The old one, Wier, had gone to the coldest and deepest ocean. At those depths, was the Great Forge where he boiled his food and fused the glass. At the end of his long life, he returned to be eaten by the children of Wier. Others followed his journey to the depths and to the Great Forge. There some were eaten at the Forge, but some returned with great knowledge to in turn impart their knowledge to the Wann. The WierWann have form of ancestor worship that is based on the consumed ancestors. There a small shires within the households of the WierWann for the ancestors.
