Biology

The anyl are a semi-reptilian, warn-blooded species with a nictating membrane that covers the eyes. They are six limed, but their plantegrade feet and unusual hip structure make it possible for them to choose to walk or run on two, four or all six feet. They are a burrowing species with long, strong, blunt claws used for digging. When burrowing of moving through the earth they use all six limbs and can maneuver with lighting speed. The anyl are oviparous with an eight-month (Terran) reproductive cycle. Newborns can walk and burrow within about 30 minutes of birth.

The anyl have poor eyesight, but excellent hearing and sense of smell. In their native environments they dwell almost entirely in darkness, but communicate through low pitched “songs’ that carry well over long distances through the earth. These song let other anyl know exactly where their tribe members are at any given time.

Culture

The anyl have  well developed culture and set of laws which guide behavioral norms. They have been working metals and smelting ores for some time, but their technology is little past the Terran iron age. They are however, expert metalsmiths and jewelers and their creations are much sought after for off world trade.

On the whole their societal structure is tribal, with extended familial units coming together for mutual benefit. Tribal conflicts are uncommon, but do occur between these generally peaceful and creative species.
