From “The Hammonds of Ore City: Deconstructing a Dynasty” by Cyril Linkus, Stanford University Press – Despite everything the Hammonds were, in some circles much admired, even revered for the way they kept the mines open and kept the town running. A lot of Ore City people got rich riding the coat-tails of the Hammonds during the war and turned a blind eye to their excesses.
I love the moody colors. And it seems obvious that the Hunter, Orion is it? Is in the city for a specific purpose, revenge it seems. That much you don’t need thought bubbles and narration boxes for.
That reminds me, I have one question about the beginning. Was the race that was attacked. Were they primitives like Conan, etc?
Conditions on Rogue outside Ore City are primitive, but the tir’a are not. Other than humans they are the only race with FTL capabilities. They do tend to favor primitive weapons though and the old tir’a (Orion’s grandfather) grabbed the first thing he saw to defend his family. I’m glad you appreciate the storytelling style. I don’t think its necessary to fill in every detail, I’d rather let the reader extrapolate some story elements on their own. Almost as if they are co-imagining the story with me.
Hmm, fatherly love leaves something to be desired out here in the frontier, doesn’t it? Ouch.
