The tir’a are from a world with slightly heavier gravity than earth and a thicker slightly more caustic atmosphere. They tend to be shorter, stockier, and stronger than humans. They have superior night vision and sense of smell as well. In battle tend to be a little disdainful of ranged weapons, preferring to kill up close and individually. A tir’a warrior will kill you, skin you, then use your shinbone for a pencil box, but they want to do it up close and in person. In the early days of the war, this gave the humans an advantage. Tir’a like to board ships, humans like big ship to ship battles. Humans will stay in orbit and lob bombs at the surface, tir’a want to land marines and take territory the old fashioned way.
Tattoos are important to the tir’a as well. They recount the story of one’s life. Any major event, battle, hardship conquered or goal achieved is generally tattooed on. On older tir’a the tattoos might well cover their entire body from the collarbones down to the feet, including the backs of the hands. Only the soles of the feet, the front of the face (sides of the face and around the eyes are sometimes tattooed), and the palms of the hands are left unmarked.
Depending on their clan, some of the tir’a carry the short, single-edged, long handled knife. While personal weapons are usually forbidden in public, like the Indian Ghurkas, the tir’a consider this a religious ornament and are exempted from this prohibition.
Tir’a have a single god named Va’annu. This is also the word they use for their home planet. Their god is their world n heir world is their god. Va’annu is supposed to have had twelve children. The equate to the 12 clans. Orion is a “rel”, a clan known for warriors. Though many warriors are rel, not all rel are warriors. Each clan has tradesmen, priests, warriors, scholars, etc. though some are known to excel at producing one type or another.
